Default Hospital Porter

I bought this Hospital Porter patch (looks more like a pocket though), but am not sure exactly what it is, or if it's military or civilian. Can anyone shed any light on it?

I apologize for the small picture, but all I have at present as the item is in a large batch of buys going back to late last year, but is currently in transit.

Thanks for any info!

Terry

Stephen, I agree about the pocket, but the khaki color and dark red text is what makes me wonder if it might be RAMC??? What would a porter do in a hospital, as I am not familiar with that term over here?

Wiki description is reasonably accurate :
Quote:
Hospital porters are employed to move patients between wards and departments and to move goods and vital supplies including medical equipment, linen, blood, and samples. This is generally not regarded as skilled work, it attracts little attention and pay and conditions are generally among the lowest in the hospital.
Previously they were employed by the hospitals but now their jobs are outsourced to private firms.

The ones I remember used to either wear a suit (front of house) or a brown/grey warehouse coat depending on hospital policy.

Probably doesn't help but the actors who play the porters in ITV's "The Royal" set in the 1960s do wear khaki coats but nowt on the pockets.

Thank you all, some very interesting information.

Mike, the description you share is what I was expecting, but wanted to be sure.

Bottom line, sounds like it's a civvy piece rather than military, just happens ot be in sort of military colors (opps, I mean colours).
