Default Royal Navy formation badge ?

Hello all,
i have got this badge together within a lot of RN WW2 trade and rank badges.
It shows a machine embroidered yellow/golden dragon with some red applications in his claws, on dark blue cloth. The reverse is backed with a thin black fleece. Worn and removed from an uniform.
The outer dimensions are 105mm height and 90mm width, i would say a large sleeve badge.
Any idea what it is ?
Thanks for any comments and help,
kind regards
Markus

I think that it is a phoenix rising from the flames. I have no idea who would have worn it.

A ship, boat or flottilla ? Naval shore unit ?

It is not an RN badge that I know, I don't think it is RN at all.
Cheers,
Alex

Thanks for all the comments !
I also found the 56th squadron with the phoenix-symbol, may be related to this badge.
I also think about an most unknown, internal badge of the RN Fire-fighting school HMS PHOENIX:

"Excellent ceased being a naval establishment in its own right in the mid-1980s when it came under the banner of the neighbouring naval base. But it was formally recommissioned in 1994 when HMS Phoenix, the school of fire-fighting and damage control, closed."

I will keep the badge, may be coincidence will bring something to light ......

Thanks and kind regards
Markus

Seems possible/probable.

Markus, Try contacting he RN Fire Fighting School and maybe they can confirm it for you. I have often contacted various regiments seeking information and some reply with help an others don't, but it never hurts to ask.

Thanks Mike and Terry,
the badge came in this trio and was stored together in an envelope for decades by the family.
The No.2 dress Chief Petty Officer is machine embroidered and also backed with black fleece, i guess from the early years after WW2. That would match with the date HMS Phoenix was established.
Correct, never hurts to ask and i will try it.

Thanks for all the help
and kind regards
Markus
