Default Middlesex footballers.....AGAIN

Greetings all.

With reference to post 7 in the following thread, relating to a dealer with more than 40 years experience.

http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ad.php?t=35809

Have a look at the Middlesex badges being offered, in particular this one

I have notified them that this is a complete fantasy and that 2 other badges, (one scarce and the other rare), a 10th Battalion with blank scroll and Public Works Pioneer Battalion are both wrong.

Awaiting their reply, but as PB alludes to, 40 years experience and mistakes like these and that highlighted in the original post re letter T.....

Regards

Brian

Hi guys
I also have notified him regarding his cast and therefore wrong Aussie badges. He does have some good ones but most are duds. After the auctions had ended I did get a reply. "Thanks for the info, but we are not experts on australian badges"
Then relisted them again without acknowledging they were wrong

Hello Brain, thats not good re:Middlesex Regt if you were just starting out in this hobby of ours and collect to the Middlesex you would look at what was on sale and think all your christmas's had come at once!and waste a lot of money also.Thats why the forum is great for all, regards Gerard

For those (like me) who are unfamiliar as to the issues surrounding this badge, I've done a search and this thread explains it best with references to other threads.

If the dealer involved is reading this thread then he should ashamed of himself.

While people get upset when dealers are criticized, I am afraid I will stand my ground over such blatant and well known fakes such as these.

Greetings all.

This afternoon I had a long chat with this particular seller, who had the decency to contact me in respect of my message to him on ebay.

He listened to all I said in relation to this badge and other Middlesex items he was currently offering.

As a consequence, he has removed said badge and others from his listings and will also amend a listing in relation to another wrongly identified Middlesex item, id est a badge shown as a brass economy, but which, in reality, is actually an OSD collar with the bronzing removed,(or perhaps pre bronzing).

He was extremely grateful for the advice and accepts that mistakes are made......I agree....nobody is infallible.

He is a member of this forum and has been advised to research items he is unsure of and ask for guidance, if necessary, and to search this forum in respect of this particular badge and that of The Middlesex Public Works Pioneer Battalion .

So there you have it, a dealer who is respectful, willing to learn and is honest in admitting to errors...........and he does have some good badges as well....I have bought some nice pieces from him in the past.

Regards

Brian

Well done Brian, I regularly contact dealers and sellers to offer advice and must say in general it is taken in good spirit! Most of the well established dealers follow or are members of this site, even those who are banned! Lol (Woof!)

It is in their interest to keep pace with the abundance of good advice that is shared by members of this Forum, however some either disregard the facts often unearthed or just possibly too greedy to remove a wrongly listed item?

For example, no dealer worth their salt should now be offering a Middlesex Footballers or 1&2 Life Guards Gm ORs cap badge in the future, unless they've missed these particular threads? Sometime for whatever reason the sellers chose not to accept advice, this badge for example is IMO a fantasy item and should only appear in Bim in this small size for ORs and in OSD, silver or silver plate for officers! The badge linked to is quite a common fake and never worth what it is listed at here?

Andy
