Doing the maths Bess... puts that badges number as original. You should be able to look up that Hussars number for an ID.

Is it possible that you have two numbers on an old badge?
The first three digits, 228, from 1906 when new army numbers were issued to all light cavalry regiments but grouped separately as Hussars, Lancers, Dragoons.
The second, 20997 during WW1, either to a new owner or someone who left and rejoined the army.
It doesn't look as though they were stamped at the same time.
Just a thought.

I never thought of that Bill, I guess its possible, but they look the fonts and size are from the same stamp set?
