hi all and please have a look at the badge to help with identification please
Hi I am newbie to the forum. I live in Gibraltar. I am originally from the Czech Republic and my main interest is Austrian Empire Army. Locally in Gibraltar I found a badge in a tunnel (from late 18th century). Took me a while to clean it. It is quite solid bronze/brass. I am not sure if this is British military badge and hope some knowledgeable members would help. Thanks and hope you find it interesting.

It is a collar badge of either the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment or the Lincolnshire Yeomanry. I believe they were the same for both regiments.

Collar
I believe this badge was worn at one point by the Lincolnshire Yeomanry.

Churchill's shows as The Loyal Regiment (North Lancashire).
"The other ranks collar badge was the "Lincoln Shield" of the old 81st in gilding metal, Pattern No 9974, sealed 20th January 1882 "to replace brass Patterns 9504 of the 81st and 9328 of the 47th". The patterns it replaced were the 47th's Royal Crest of England in brass (not worn in facing pairs) and the 81st's Lincoln Shield surmounting a scroll bearing "Maida" and "Corruna" in brass (not worn in facing pairs). "Renewal of the standard pattern was demanded 9th February 1898 and the resulting pattern 9974a was cut from new dies and sealed 3rd August 1899. No change in design, and worn until 1961" "........it is believed that a completely different design was worn for a short while by the 1st Battn.". |
