Default 16th Battalion Highland Light Infantry shoulder titles

Hi guys,

Im looking for help Id and authenticate these shoulder titles. Ive been collecting medals to the HLI for years and these came with a group in near mint condition. So my questions are....

1. Are these what the 16th would have worn?
2. Would they have been issued to every member of the 16th or maybe just original members of the battalion? (1st set ive seen in collecting for over 12 years.)

Thanks for any help.

Cheers John

Hello John,

Interested to read your post and see the titles.
I cannot give definitive answers to your questions but can say:

15th Service Bn (1st Glasgow) wore 3 piece shoulder titles.
18th Service Bn (4th Glasgow) wore 1 piece shoulder titles.

I collect HLI shoulder titles, have seen period photos of above being worn and have examples of these in my collection.

Every chance the 16th and 17th may have worn similar though I'm away from my reference notes at present.

Nice to see what else is out there, thanks for posting them. Something else now for me to find..!!

Cheers, Pat

Hi Pat,

Thanks for that. Ive seen the usual territorial shoulder titles that are one piece but never seen 15,16,17 or 18th titles before.

Cheers John

Good to see titles like these gentleman and certainly plausible that more of this type exist for the other Glasgow battalions following the sequential numbering and style of the Manchester and Liverpool City Battalion titles etc.

The West Yorkshire Regiment immediately spring to mind with distinctive shoulder titles for the Pals battalions.

Cheers Dean

Outstanding - thanks to all contributors. Great items in your photo Pat.
'Pals' insignia is an interest I plan to return to at some stage after a very long lapse.
The stories represented by these items always causes me to stop and think what tales they could tell if they could talk.
