2nd Bn Y&L Rare Cloth Badge
Thought I would share my latest purchase, a very rare 2nd Bn Y&L 65th cloth pagri patch on a Foreign Service Helmet/pith helmet.
During WW2, the 2nd Bn was part of the 70th Div in the far east and was converted into Chindit Brigades. The 2nd Bn was spilt into 2 columns, the 65th Column and the 84th Column (after the antecedent regiments of foot). To identify the different Columns, the 65th wore a red pagri patch with the number 65 and the 84 Column a black pagri patch with the number 84. Although there are copies of this patch around, I've only ever seen 2 genuine ones but to find one on a (albeit dirty) FSH is a bit of a result. The only other genuine patch I've seen is in the Y&L museum. It just goes to show that there are still gems around waiting to be picked up. Ivan Last edited by badger123; 13-01-23 at 08:46 PM. |

Apologies for the poor photograph, it was taken some years ago and at the Y&L museum.
The first picture shows a slouch hat with an 84th Column patch and a FSH with a 65th Column patch. For comparison, the second picture also from the museum, shows modern copies of both patches (well at least 1980s). Ivan |

Superb find! I believe the FSH and flash dates prior to the 2nd Young and Lovely becoming part of the Chindits, when they were in Khartoum and Egypt.
