Default Public School Battalion

Hi All, can anyone tell me when the Public School Battalion was first raised ? I thought WW1 as part of Kitcheners army, but I have just viewed an item on Minden's site believed to be a slouch hat badge P.S.B. public school battalion dating 1900-1904 ? Apologies if this is posted in wrong section.

Cheers in advance, Mark

Mark

I think Minden may be inaccurate in their description,

The postcard has the age to be Edwardian and the pen and ink drawing looks contemporary.

It shows a soldier in an Infantry 1st Volunteer Battalion but the Regiment is unclear. The short County title may just be a styalised drawing and not accurate.

The Public Schools Battalion were indeed a well known WW1 unit, so might the PSB be for a different unit entirely?, an abbreviation of the time for something else which has been misinterpreted by the original author.

To be honest I dont recognise the construction of the title to be anything I have seen before.

regards
