What about this one:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shot-WW1-1...item1c42944a94 Arras, so 1917 or 1918? Only problem is a 1917 coin would have little or no wear on it. Looks like it's been in normal circulation for 30 years by the wear (Don't some smart Alec say Arras WW2!) |

How about Hell: £73
Curious how there is no corrosion on the coin. In fact it has a nice mellow patina. Now you don't find bronze coins coming out of the ground like that too often in my metal detecting experience. I guess conditions must have been good where that was found. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRENCH-ART...p2047675.l2557 |

Mike,
I don't see any Florins or Half Crowns among them. Who would buy such items? Eddie |

Interesting thought on what coins - would the British Tommy not have francs in his pocket? |

Given the fact that a 1936 penny is described as a possible WW1 relic, one can only assume that the British Tommy was not only carrying a good stock of pennies but a time machine as well!

Where's our ballistics guys?
A nickel jacketed lead filled 303 or Mauser bullet would never hold its shape hitting anything hard like a coin would it? those bullets have hit earth or sand. |

My thoughts too, Mike, about the shape. Surely it would've been bent at the tip. My grandfather used to have a bullet from a German aircraft that hit his helmet and bounced off a wall (or maybe it was the other way round) when he was an ARP Warden which was quite bent.

Shot Penny
Gents, also interesting to note that the bullets piercing the penny's all appear to be of the jacketed pointed type. Germany did not introduce this bullet type until circa 1905 and Britain circa 1910. Prior to this bullets were round nosed. Something of a dilemma for the Victorian era coins methinks!!
