Constabulary buttons, what period
Hi all,
I found those two Constabulary buttons that are looking pretty old. Larger was made in Dublin. Any ideas when they were in use? Pre- Victorian era?

I am always looking early (pre 1939) British ribbon bars with foreign awards; interesting devices or just different construction solutions. Also I am seeking Royal Dublin Fusiliers items. I can help in small scale to research RDF soldiers (MICs, medal rolls, additional information, etc). |

1856 County and Borough Police Act compelled all Counties to establish police forces before this many watchmen or constabulary would likely have a general issue button. I think Ripley did a volume two police button book that deals with the earlier buttons but I don't have it.
Clancy back mark dates the large button to around 1810-1850. |
