1 Commando Title......
Shoulder title to No. 1 Commando, being an arc of khaki wool with an extension above the centre of the arc, on which 1 / COMMANDO in green thread.
The first green-lettered title changed in early 1943 to No 1 COMMANDO in red on a dark blue arc. Nos. 1 and 2 Commandos were created in March 1941 from the disbanded 1st Special Service Battalion. 1 Commando saw action in northern France, North Africa and Burma. During its service in the Far East it merged with 5 Commando for a time to form 1/5 Commando.© IWM (INS 8110)
