Default Civil Defence Corp region titles

Gents, I recently picked up this little group.

I don't recognise the letter E badge. Is it in fact CDC insignia?

Also are any of the regions particularly scarce?

Thanks in advance

Bess

Bess,

The 'E' badge looks to be US Navy (I can't see the colours correctly), which was for 'Efficiency' in enlisted grades E-1 to E-6, previously worn on the right sleeve and since superseded by a ribbon worn on the breast.

TBH, none of the CDC regions are particularly sought-after compared to other regions and they are not scarce, regularly appearing on ebay etc for a few quid.

WW2 ARP and CD area titles, on the other hand, are rising in price due to their increasing scarcity.

Thank you, I came into possession of them but know very little about Civil Defence insignia.

National Archives file SUPP4/279 is a post-war Ministry of Supply Order book for cloth badges ordered for the Army and Civil Defence

An entry dated 14th July 1950 notes orders placed for the post-war CD area titles which are described as – Titles, Territorial.

Orders for 95 variants listed as London boroughs, large towns and counties were placed with Lewis Falk Ltd of Letchworth, 133 variants for northern towns and Scotland with AW Hewetson Ltd of Macclesfield

The average quantity initially ordered was 600 of each although some like Liverpool were for 1,600.

Judging from the quantities now available they clearly over-ordered.
