Default Liverpool Scottish 8th. VB - Help required

I hope someone can help. I'm after a 8th. VB Liverpool Scottish badge (for someone else) It's outside my area of collecting, and I've been quite amazed at the shedload of these on eBay, particularly for such a short-lived unit . . . AND all purporting to be genuine. How would I go about spotting a kosher item? Any tips? And what is a fair ballpark price?

Any help would be much appreciated . . .

Many thanks - Lawrence

The badge you after must be a 8th Vol Bn Glengarry badge (from 1901 to 1908) though there are many with screw posts worn on the NCO's badge had on their sporrans.
The officer's Glengarries were similar to the 1908 (TF) Glengarry badge but they were inscribed Scottish Liverpool.

Almost all genuine examples are hall marked silver, I did have a complete pouch belt with white metal badges including the badge you are after but that was the only non hall marked example I have ever come across.

Some pictures in my albums.

You will be looking at £250-£350 for an example,

P.B,

Everyone of these, variously described as WW1/Victorian, Pouch Belt/ Helmet Plate/Cap Badge on ebay is fake and always is.

Aha, I thought you were after a headdress badge - as in a Glengarry badge. Actually, a similar badge you illustrated was worn on officer's feathers bonnet - probably also scarce. Yes, look at Peter's albums.
The badge you were after is a cross belt badge and as Peter and Manchesters both said correctly that they almost all are fakes.

Default Thanks

Gentlemen, thank you so much for your replies. What my brother is after, I now realise, is a pre TF glengarry badge. I assume this to be similar to the 1908-37 badge. Is this right?

Once again many thanks.

Regards - Lawrence
