Monty Cassino

Welcome to the Forum - and its many uses - we are all educated through sharing information

As for Special Forces, Airborne, Commando etc - yes - the faking is heavy and sometimes frighteningly good. Yet sometimes what appears to be fake has provenance and is perfectly good - I am biased but think just as much or more care needs to be taken in these areas as any other, with mistakes being costly if not avoided.

The forum is great, but at the end of the day - you have to weigh up all information and expertise and only do things you yourself are happy with. 'If in doubt leave it out'. I guess you are an experienced collector already but certainly the collective wisdom of the Forum is helpful, particularly as we have specialists in virtually every relevant field.

Mike

The knowledge and experience on forums like this is INVALUABLE and i commend you all - i also commend you for actually being polite and nice! gosh if this had been say for a German WW2 forum,....oh my...they are harsh....

Just to update the forum the fake cloth embroidered beret badge is back on eBay, but now without the beret.

I pointed out the item was fake to the seller and his reply was quite insulting and abusive.

Please avoid this item and seller:

Buyers beware, the fake cloth embroidered LRDG badge is in the Lacy Scott and Knight auction on December 12, 2016, lot 223.

I have emailed the auctioneer and warned them it is a fake.

Prospective buyers beware. The fake LRDG embroidered badge has re-appeared on eBay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/192217114508

I have contacted the seller, told him it was fake, and had been discussed on this forum.

I often wonder why I still enjoy the hobby with all the fakes and attempts at deception?

The beret has clearly had labels removed from the lining as can be seen by the rectangular stitching.

The seller doesn't even know anything about the LRDG and the SAS!

The fake LRDG badge on beret has now appeared for sale in the Lockdales auction of July 15, 2017 lot 657. There is also a fake LRDG brass shoulder title attached to an officer rank slide in the same auction.

Also a good copy being sold as original on eBay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Long-Range...e/132239480812
These copies were cast from originals and sold as copy space fillers a few years ago. I suppose it was only a matter of time before one showed up labelled as an "original"

Prospective buyers beware...
