Sydney University Regiment hat badge - 1953 to 60
Sydney University Regiment hat badge - 1953 to 60
A round officer's hat badge exists as well - the edge of the badge was cut off to leave the round centre - worn on officer's peak caps. |

White metal SUR Badge
Can anyone tell me why the SUR w/m badge with the Argyll and Sutherland type thistle border are almost impossible to find? I have only seen one being worn at a Sydney comp when I was Band rep for the AUR Ppes and Dums
I have a repro that was fixed to a small wooden shield. It appears that the Pipe Band's bage of the Lord Wakehurst crest is easier to come by; by that I mean just about impossible. |

Probably only issued in small numbers.

SUR Badges
The SUR badge with thistle border and Kings Crown is listed as the "All ranks glengarry badge1948-1964" A similar badge with the Queens Crown is listed as a Pipe and Drum Majors Balmoral badge. I would not be surprised to find alternatives to the above limited issue.
Books that deal with the Unit and badges include "A History of the Pipes and Drums of the Sydney Uniiversity Regiment" pub 1997 And "Sydney University Regiment Badges" pub 1970 These list may units connected with the University including that of the rare Sydney University Company. raised and disbanded in 1918. The badge, enamelled, is described as circular wih the badge of Sydney University in the centre (without the Motto) and surmounted by a Rising Sun. The title Sydney University Company was around the outer border. Issued in ugust 1918 and worn on the left lapel of the civilian coat. Don Pedler. |

SUR
dped,
do you have a copy of the History of the Pipes & Drums of SUR and does it contain a successsion list ot their Pipe Majors? I am interested in the names of the pipe majors pre-1958; I believe they were established in the 1920's. Aad |
