Default British Shako Insignia …need help

I have a chance to purchase this Shako but not something I normally collect. Typically stick to WW1 and 2 items. Any info anyone could provide would be appreciated. The shako is in great shape and named on the inside. I’m curious about the insignia …..Lancashire ..Artillery ??

Default Liverpool Linnets

I think the shako plate may be that of the Liverpool Linnets (2nd Royal Lancashire Militia) Duke of Lancaster’s Own Rifles. In 1881 I believe they became a Militia Battalion of The King’s Liverpool Regiment.

I’m sure P.B. will be able to confirm or correct if I’m mistaken.

The shako itself is in remarkably good condition and has very little wear for something that is over 140 years old.

Hello,

A very nice condition and original 'Last Shako' worn 1869 - 1878 of a Volunteer or Militia Junior Officer.

The name of A. Newman however does not appear on the 1877 Army List for the Liverpool based Militia units so I suspect that as it has a retailer in Bath also that the badge has been added to the shako by a collector much later.

Not withstanding that its a nice piece and worth about £800 in my opinion.

best wishes

Not unlikely that it is Lancashire Militia.
Details about their lineage: Lancashire Militia

Definitely Liverpool Linnets. I have the helmet plate, shako plate, and cross belt plate. Check out my album. I’ll be posting better photos soon.

Hi Kevin,

I took the opportunity to look at your album showcasing your helmet/shako plates... absolutely wonderful plates!! I would invite you to look at one of my albums here on the forum showcasing some of my Victorian Officer's home service helmet plates: https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...p?albumid=4640

I also have an album of my collection of dragoon helmets and one of the few home service helmets in my collection... I hope you enjoy them!

Cheers,

David

WOW!!! What a marvelous shako and a terrific find!!! I will add my concurrence with the rest of the choir... last pattern shako badged to the 2nd Royal Lancashire Militia. If you are not going to purchase it, I would be thrilled to add it to my collection... if you have a change of heart and opt not to purchase... I'd like to be put in touch with the seller...

Again, a gorgeous find!!!

Cheers,

David
