Help identify regiment
Hi
I'm doing little research on a portrait I own. Like to know if anyone could help with identifying the regiment. Also, any information on the medals would be much appreciated. Thanks Keith |

The medals are a Victorian Distinguished Service Order, Queen's South Africa medal with 5 clasps and King's South Africa medal with the standard 2 clasps. Collar badge looks like light infantry or rifle regiment but I don't know much about collar badges.

It is the uniform of the Durham Light Infantry, but has been hand colored incorrectly as the facings were dark green. This often happened with old photos wherein the actual color was not known, or the color artist did not bother with accuracy. Even the collar badges are incorrectly colored gilt, whereas they should be silver.

The buttons appear to be DLI - DLI officer's collar badges were gold embroidery, not silver.

Yes they were indeed gold bullion, not silver.

I thought that was the case too, but saw a silver bullion pair which now I can only assume were for Volunteers/TR?
