Default South African / Dutch SF volunteers arm badge

Hi Admin,
I have placed this thread within the UK AB/Elite/ SF as I am sure a couple years back there was a thread where there was a link to an armbadge worn by the Dutch/South African SF Volunteers.
A Steinbock or similar.
Does anyone have any info/pictures please that they can share?
How rare is the badge?
Thanks in advance.
KR
Jon

Hi Jon,

this is the badge worn by Dutch volunteers coming from South Africa. They served in the regular Prinses Irene Brigade and also No 10 I-A Commando (No 2 Dutch Troop). It represents a 'springbok'. There were about 600 volunteers, but an original badge is pretty rare.

Attached is an image from a Youtube video (link here) showing one being worn.

There are other examples throughout the video.

When i receive said piece I will see if it looks real or is indeed a fake or nothing like those shown.
It is looking promising however.

Hi folks this is mine indeed a rare bird UK made.

In 44/45 various patterns were made in Holland but never in Brabant weave. Van Engelen & Evers did not make them. One known firm is Eggers in Almelo it had poor quality tissue and edges had to stichted against fraying.

Cheers

The SA volunteers in the Royal Netherlands Brigade Prinses Irene wore the Springbok below the nationality lion patch (or Dancing Monkey) on left arm.The commando’s on right arm under no 10 commando. The commando’s had already the combined ops badge below the Nationality patch and no space left!!

The left example with diagonal stripes is 1945 Eggers Almelo verson.

Cheers
JB

Default Thank you Postie

Well chaps,
I am glad to say that the little beauty arrived today.
A right corker.
Some other nice bits of cloth present too, including the posted Polish badge (Tank Unit?).
Enjoy

Jon,
If the Polish Army in Exile beret eagle badge is on black background (I am not sure from the photos) then it was worn in armour units.
If dark blue (navy blue) it was for wider use in different army units.
