UK SOE parachute wing???
Gentlemen,
any information on this parachute wing? It is offered to me as a UK WW II parawing, related to SOE..... |

All the photos I've ever seen of members of SOE wearing battledress have wings which have, for want of a better description, fatter or broader wings with a different feather shape. Given that there seems to be so many variations of wings, that doesn't mean it's impossible, just unlikely, I'd say.

The wing does not look British or wartime to me...

Roger that. I'm no expert on British WW II wings and/or SOE, but I'd agree, doesn't look like the real deal.
Thank you for the feedback, much appreciated. Boes |

Did they also wear a trade badge saying SPY?

In a word, no, members of the SOE, when in uniform would have simply worn the wartime British parachute qualification badges that had been issued to them and any wing that their tailor had supplied to them with any particular tunic or battledress that they had actually bought.

LOL, I doubt it, but, the "wings" are certainly a clue, very clear in the case of Brian Stonehouse!

I had posted last week a photo of H. Allen Todd in his dress uniform. Allen was a Jedburgh and the British Para wings shown on his uniform in the photo appear to conform in shape to the wing in question. Please correct me if wrong.
the photo was posted in the "Photographs of British Servicemen and Women wearing Insignia"

The backing material can simply be cut to any shape, I would ask where and in particular when, did Allen Todd obtain the wing in the photograph, if it was from a British tailor during the war, you can bet, safely, that it will differ in the way it was made and the materials used from the wing shown in the original post, but, this thread is about the particular wing shown in that first post.

Agreed it could likely just be the cut of the background material.

You need to always have an open mind. I have dismissed things in the past that were good due to me being narrow minded.
