12e Régiment blindé du Canada Officer's hat badge
12th Regiment de blinde Officer's hat badge
The 12e Régiment blindé du Canada (12th Armoured Regiment of Canada) is a Canadian Forces armoured regiment based in CFB Valcartier, on the outskirts of Quebec City. The regiment has both Regular Force and Primary Reserve components. The 12e Régiment blindé du Canada's abbreviation is 12e RBC. Both the regular and militia regiments serve mainly in the armoured reconnaissance role but a squadron of tanks is now being formed out of Valcartier. Just a historical note.
The Three Rivers Regiment's wartime designation was 12th Armoured Regimet, hence 12e Regiment Blinde du Canada. Their first CO when they were stood up as a Regular Force unit lives here in Kingston. I have never seen their officers wearing the metal and enamel cap badge. They usually wear the embroidered badge. Several of the Regular Force Regiments have metal officers' cap badges that were available through the CF Supply System, but I don't think I have ever seen them worn. Phil |

Is this badge an official issue badge? or is the embroidered official issue?
I wonder what the reason is behind that? Mick |

The metal and enamel issue is "official government issue" complete with a NATO stock number. The embroidered cap badges are purchased through the regimental kit shop.
How do you say what is official and what isn't? In this case there is the badge provided by the government which isn't worn; then there is the badge that is private purchase that is worn. Private puchase, or kit shop purchase is pretty much standard for officers in the Canadian Forces with the exception of a couple of branches. Phil |

Climbing in and out of armoured vehicles is much easier with an embroidered badge on your beret. The damn metal ones keep getting caught up.

Both the Royal 22e Regiment and the 12e RBC have gone to embroidered capbadges for all ranks.
The Strathconas and the RCDs still wear metal capbadges with distinctive badges for the officers. From what I have seen, crew helmets are now worn by all armoured vehicle crews. I think for safety reasons they are not allowed to wear berets while operating an AFV. Phil |
