Default Shoulder plate ID sought please ...Arabic early 19th Century

Would appreciate if anyone could identify this shoulder plate ,which I believe is late 18th early 19th century.
Wording is Arabic stating "the conquerors" Fatah haha and "of a place". Der. plane .
The cross is possibly Christian ?
Muskets are flint locks,
Penants have remains of black enamel.
Rear is standard shoulder plate fixings .
Badge cast bronze .

Thanks steve

I don't think the script is Arabic, I've consulted my Arabic family and they agree.

Uneducated, unaimed shot in the dark - the lion as a symbol - Ethiopian?
I have nothing else to back up that suggestion.

I would say, as a complete non-expert, that the script looks more Persian than Amharic, but the cross is a puzzle. Assyrian Christian levies in Turkish service?

I agree that the script is probably Persian. The problem is that there are a number of older scripts, not to mention the modern version which is very similar to Arabic. This however is not Arabic, some of the characters used do not occur in Arabic. I have discussed this with a number of native Arabic speaking people, one of whom is a Arabic translator and they all agree it is not Arabic.

I am sure I've seen the "cross" symbol somewhere but I can't for the life of me recall where.

However, it is a really nice thing and I am very jealous!!

The "cross" is similar to a symbol worn on some items of headgear and as a tattoo by some characters in the film "Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade".
No, I'm not a fan, but I'm having to sit through it at the moment.
