I meant to add that the NZ Soldiers' Association badge bears the number A115 engraved on the back. This will presumably be for "Auckland" and will be an association number and unlikely to be a service number. From memory, the only other badge I've sighted was "A110"

Many thanks for that! Always good to see rare badges.

Hi Tim
Glad that you liked them. It was a real coup to find out what that badge was and then read up on the background to it. |

Hi all
Been trying to find a place for this post but decided that those with half an interest will find it... Here is a little "mystery" badge made of bronze or a bronzed material. The "horseshoe" has been applied separately (would almost fit your daughter's "My Little Pony".....) and it bears a suspicious resemblance to the brass 1915 "three cannons" badge. The "half moon" clip is especially solid. Anyone seen it before? I would suspect it could be for the Army Remount Service or could it be for the largest maker of "horseshoes" for Fred Karno's Army? |

Hi
interesting. Not seen anything like it, but given the vast array of companies producing them (have a look at CharlieDog's albums for lots of cracking examples) It easily could be a company associated with horses. Thanks for showing it cheers, Tim |

Hi Tim
It's a really SOLID badge. No chance of this getting damaged. I think that the term "On War Service" was a deliberately vague one that hid a multitude of things. My Dad (a schoolboy in the UK during WW2) tells that there was someone who was in an "essential" industry and therefore couldn't be conscripted. He was making the pips for the artificial strawberry jam.... If it's not a true story, it darn well should be! |

Found one that was sold in 2016.
"WW1 Home Front “On War Service” bronze crowned horseshoe Farrier / Blacksmith lapel badge. A scarce example, made by Fattorini & Sons , Bradford and retaining buttonhole fitting." |
