Maybe between us we can resolve this .
Colin Owen has this title as Rand Rifles Mine Guard.
Curzon says that it is Rand Rifles Machine Gun section.
It could , I suppose have been either.
What do you think ?

Well there was definately a 'Rand Rifles Mine Guard' unit during the Boer War but if you search for 'Rand Rifles Machine Gun Section' google does not find anything.

I suspect in this case Owen is correct.
