Very interesting to see these badges whose provenance seems beyond any doubt. I do not know for sure but I imagine that Dunkirk must have been a principal port of disembarkation and resupply. If so then many men would have passed through and maybe exchanged insignia, including perhaps a soldier who had previously been a member of 3rd VB RWF and retained his obsolescent badge. I can only guess that the badge was exchanged for something more useful.

Question Strange badge

The fact that this seems to be fixed with string on the display could be that it is not British or Commonwealth but some other adornment with a continental origin.
