Default Operation Safari brassard

I have found this brassard which would have been worn by Canadian contingent or experts in Sudan during UNMIS. Could you confirm that, and is there any photos of Canadian soldiers wearing this brassard ?

Thank you

I'll check with a member of my militaria club, as he gave a talk about his experiences there at last month's meeting. I don't recall seeing one in any of his photographs as all the brassards were UN blue.

Here's his reply:

"David, that would be African Union but I never saw this arm band at UN HQ in Khartoum or any of the teamsites I visited. Each country had their own identifier. This arm band, if worn on Op Safari, would probably have the UN badge on it also."

He also just added that it isn't really considered UN as there is no badge - UN badge that is.

Hope that helps, David

Default Op AUGURAL

Canada’s military contribution to the African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS), Operation AUGURAL was conducted to build capacity in the areas of strategic planning, air operations, contracting, logistics and operations planning, and land operations with the Canadian “armoured vehicle, general purpose”, or AVGP.

I have Op AUGURAL material in my collection that was donated to me by Canadians who had participated in that Op. AU Brassards were issued to but not necessarily worn by the Canadians that I spoke with. Here is one of my examples from that mission.

Thank you for these informations. Certainly a brassard worn by African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS), African Union (AU) peacekeeping force operating primarily in the country's western region of Darfur with the aim of performing peacekeeping operations related to the Darfur conflict. Composed by contingents from Rwanda, Nigeria, Senegal, ...
May be a souvenir brought back by a Canadian soldier ?

Default Op AUGURAL

No certainly not a souvenir and as stated in my previous message, "AU Brassards were issued to but not necessarily worn by the Canadians".
