I found a signature on it. Stuart Archer G.C I cannot fathom why the mount wasn't cut to show it by the framer.

Is the print based on an actual incident? The location seems to be St Catherine's Dock and the Tower of London is visible in the background.

Can't find any details but the original painting is in Carver Barracks Officers Mess.

"In 1969 49 BD Sqn RE was renamed 49 EOD Sqn RE"

The Royal Engineers Bomb Disposal Officers Club

I'd say the location is somewhere around Queens Walk , Southwark (where London City Hall is now) , Tower Bridge and what looks like The Tower Hotel (opened in 1973) are in the background. The Clock tower of Ivory House , St.Katherine's Dock is also visible.

You are right, I clearly should have said Tower Bridge, but it was the angle of the bridge that threw me. I was assuming that we were on the north bank of the Thames looking towards the Tower. Looking closely I can see the sail of a wherry in the middle distance. In my defence, I haven't been anywhere near St Catherine's dock in years.

I worked at London Bridge Hospital and spent a lot of time walking around the area.

The Tower of London was a target for German bombers and UXB's have been discovered along a 'southern corridor' in Bermondsey/Southwark , including this one in 2015 about half a mile from the probable 'site' in the painting.
