There is clearly a "sharp pointy bit" at the top right of the badge and both the 3rd Carabiniers and the 25th Dragoons have similar features on their respective badges, (as do several other cavalry regiments).

The problem that I have is that the photograph came with half a dozen others that don't indicate 3rd Carabiniers, i.e. a Sherman tank and a Churchill tank, though others were clearly taken in India or Burma.

I’m not overly familiar with the 254th Indian Tank Brigade in Burma, but I believe they did trials in India with a Churchill tank late in the war, which would coincide with the 3DG.

As to the Sherman? Possibly one belonging to 149 RAC, C Sqn, who were also 254 ITB

Thank you Marcus.

Here is the Sherman which has the name Belfast and a Prince of Wales's plum on its side.

The 2nd Battalion, Irish Guards of the Guards Armoured Division named some of their Sherman tanks after towns in Ireland beginning with the letter B, these included Bangor, Bantry, Ballymena and Belfast,

This may, or may not be a Guards Armoured Division tank.

The webbing was the first thing I noticed, it looked as though a tin of black gloss paint had been used!

Here are two more photos featuring immaculate black webbing from 1948/49 in the Regimental magazine Feather and Carbine.
