Special Air Service Beret Badge.
I have very little knowledge of SAS insignia, I took a risk and bought a beret with this badge attached.
Described as a post war beret I'm hoping that's what it is, a beret with genuine badge from sometime from the 1970's onwards. The beret's had the lining cut out, so no clues there. I don't have the beret in hand so this is the only image I have of the badge. Can anyone tell me if the badge is good or bad, and if good date it please? |

Hi Leigh,
It's a good original badge. I'm travelling the moment so don't have access to my reference, but from the photo I like the look of it. Paul |

Thank you, that's good to know. I liked the weave of the badge's fabric and what looks like a slight discolouration and wear to the badge and to the beret but have absolutely no knowledge of what is good when it comes to these things.

A few more photos.
Described as an officer's modern beret by the seller, it has no eyelets and has been fitted with a slidered badge prior to the lining being removed and the cloth badge applied. Last edited by leigh kitchen; 29-04-19 at 06:33 PM. |

Goodberet for the price paid.

Ta, good, that's around what I was thinking in terms of age, by Compton Webb are you thinking a private purchase beret rather than issue as it lacks ventilation eyelets or is that not necessarily an indicator at that time by that manufacturer?
It could be the lack of eyelets that caused the seller to think of it as an officer's as it's private purchase, despite the ORs quality badge. (Back in't my days as an infantryman only officers wore private purchase). Last edited by leigh kitchen; 30-04-19 at 05:49 AM. |
