Could I get some views on what characteristics too look out for in a genuine beret badge worn during the ww2 period by a member of the Royal Artillery.Im thinking in terms of the size ,slider, brass and construction, turning wheel ETC.I see many around that differ so cant tell a copy from original

Hello adraind,
I'm not certain berets were worn by RA during the Second World War. Caps GS, yes, on which the grenade collar badge was worn, sometimes on a variety of backings. RHA with armoured divisions might have worn black berets with their cypher badges, and airborne units had the maroon beret, officers with wire embroidered grenades. Keith |

It was the Airlanding Artillery I was thinking of so therefore the correct badge for an OR on the maroon beret?

There are no fakes of a Gilding Metal Kings Crown RA Beret badges.
They should cost you no more than £5 and are extremely common. regards

Thankyou both. How about the correct size as i have seen some in a smaller size which is similar too the current issued ones but not sure if they would have been worn on a beret ?

The reduced size 'gun' is a post-1947 version.
The majority of gunners who joined during the war would have been issued the 'plastic' grenade badge to wear on FS cap, GS cap, and much later on berets. Stephen.
