Hi BC,
I believe that type of construction was correct for Victoria but not certain of exact period. I have previously had VGA in this type.

There was a period from 1884 when the Vic Field Artillery were authorised VA/F but I'll have to check my notes for the when and type of material - think it was embroidered - when I get home from work.

Hello BC

I have VGA, VR & MR titles all in this style in my pre-fed collection as well as the "normal" style of titles for that era.

Hi BC,

Sounds like you've got a good find. Never seen any like this before, so good to learn something new.

Cheerio old chap,

Roy

Hello BC

I found from Regulations under the Discipline Acts, published as Victorian Government Gazette (VGG) No 100 of 27 September 1889 that Section VIII, para 10, approves the title VA/F in yellow worsted on the shoulder straps.

VGG No 9 of 31 January 1890 amends para 10 to read 'in metal', replacing reference to worsted badges.

This lasted until Victorian Military Forces - Dress Regulations, was promulgated in VGG No 77 of 2 June 1893 when the title for shoulder straps reverted to VFA in brass letters, with the battery letter above in brass.

In Regulations under the Discipline Acts 1885 it was VFA in brass, one line.

So you are looking at a period 1890-1893 at least for this title.

Cheers, Keith
