Default Serif's

Dwayne you were suggesting that the Lorne Scots title in my post was post war because there was no serifs, Are you saying that all ww2 titles should have serifs? I remember getting a Garrison Bn. ( 1st) & (2nd) from Kasman in Weston two of my earlier titles,The Kasmans made uniforms and fitted them out for war time troops so I'd say this one would be ww2 & it dosen't have serifs. Any comment. Ray

Hi Ray. Serifs are one indicator of the age / period of the shoulder title (and some formation patches). As a general rule, serifs are found on older titles vs newer ones. But it is not a hard and fast rule. The Lorne Scots title is a good example of the wartime title having serifs and post war not, but not all titles follow that example.

Default Dating of titles

..as Bill mentionned is certainly not a hard and fast science. There are certainly some indicators of age based on the design of certain units titles. Serifs are one area for units such as the Lorne Scots, Provost and Seaforths to name a few.
