RNZAF officer?
Hi folks
I've just picked up this RNZAF identity card and was wondering if some can add to the little that I've found out about him. He was born in London in 1920 and died in Auckland, New Zealand in 1990, It would seem that he came out to NZ as an infant in 1921 according to shipping rolls but did he go back to the UK and enlist there or did he remain on "home service"? His service number begins with "40" so he was enlisted in 1940 I think but he lacks the "NZ" prefix to the number. No station listed which is odd but can anyone tell me more about him please? Squadron? He has no middle name and is just John KEYS - the lady I got it off suggested scratching out the "s" so that it read John Key who was NZ's PM at some point! Clearly got his wings up so at least qualified in some way. |

Hi Mike
Yes, I think a "5"! I recall a guy who wanted to train as a bomber pilot had to have his legs measured to see if he could reach the control pedals. I think he passed but by then they had too many pilots. Makes me think of The Goons: "Please sir, I want to join The Few..." "Go away, we have far too many!" |
