Reproduction VB Checklist
The load of absolute rubbish offered for sale by a prominent auction house serves
as a potent reminder of the VB badges currently under reproduction by those wishing to spoil our hobby. |

Hello VS
I’ve noted some pretty poor offerings in SAS Auctioneers next month I’d guess someone is offering ex Badgeman or International Militaria stock Paul |

Of course Thomas Plant is one of the TV Antique Show “ experts” so what can you expect ?

Hello Peter,
Earlier, I had the temerity to ask if the five Manchester VB badges at Lot 720 were genuine, of the period badges. In my humble opinion I would describe them as horrific fakes. The auction house replied to say that all were of the period 98/08 - perhaps this was meant to refer to 1998 to 2008 ?????? Is it any wonder that our hobby loses credibility daily? |

Graham,
One of my hobby horses, what are buyers getting for the commission they pay .It would nice to think it was a guarantee that they were buying genuine (as described) items but that patently is not the case. It appears that the the main aim of the majority of auctioneers is to make as much money as possible, for themselves with as little effort as possible. Most of them appear to be doing a very good job of that. Regards Peter

I would suggest that anyone who has the temerity to use 'SAS' as a backdrop to their auction has other issues.

They are Special Auction Services but they do highlight their initials Paul |

There was a menagerie of similar badges at Penkridge today from the same chap I’d mentioned in a previous thread about Leicestershire VB/TF marked badges with gaunt stamps and tablets.
Just a small snapshot, he has changed from the black card and silver pen of old Paul |

I haven't been into the Reproduction pags etc for ages.
HOWEVER I wandered into our favourite auction site today and found hundreds of "badges" of KLR badges; Mostly BM Pattern 1896/4362 - and the 5th (black) and the all WM and the "bronze". Next are the 10th Lpl Scots Bn in a variety of colours ! AMAZING Postage pieces is difficult; photographs are blurred, description, etc, etc What with the plague I can't get to fairs where I can touch them.... |

Yes, I know who they are, but would suggest they chose that name so they could use the 'SAS' logo. Just weird in my opinion. Regards, Leo |

I really hate reading threads like these, it's quite sad.
Someone who is not part of this forum, collecting Badges for themselves as a hobby, relying on the credibility of an auction house, which you should be able to do, wins a bid, is over the moon to have some rare badges, and all they have is complete and utter cr*p!!! Does my head in. SA bloo*y S, Walter Mitty alright!! Chris |
