"Officers Cap Badges with sliders are Scarce!"
As I've said in the past Officers Cap badges with sliders are scarce and of the many thousands of cap badges in my collection, slidered officers examples are still in single figures!
Here is one I acquired this week that I've not seen before, a Royal Artillery Gilt Officer's badge with a small slider, 22mm long by 5mm wide, no doubt to be accommodated in a purpose made fitting on a Forage Cap? Andy Last edited by 2747andy; 02-10-11 at 08:12 AM. |

Think I've just picked up one to the Welch today. I'll photograph it and post it in the week.
A few of us looked at it in Yate today and while I initially thought it was B'm mint, we're all happy it's not. I'm tied up in Jack land for the next few days, get back as soon as I can. |

Andy,
Understand, but no. A few of us looked at it in Yate today and while I initially thought it was B'm mint, we're all happy it's not. Crown and title scroll gilded, overlaid and pinned through. Also the font is the earlier pre 1920 size. Eddie thinks he has Id'd your Dragon and I agree with him. PM him |

Welch Regiment
Here's the badge I picked up at Yate.
The crown and title scroll are held on by wire pins bent through the main badge which appears to be cast rather than die stamped. Not the same quality as the standard silver and gilt examples I have but have never seen another like this and it is a better quality than the standard ORs issue. It's not B'm mint. Could it possibly be for a senior NCO? |

Andy
The short stubby slider appears to be a characteristic for the slidered officers cap badge? Didnt you show me another type (some time ago) that fitted into a slot fixing..... I can remeber what it was now..... but the slider had been shortend to fit into the slot (can you remember?)

the sliders are not shortened, they seem to be made that length! I have an early ASC and a N.Fus both with identical sliders! Andy |

Griff,
The slider on this one is not shortened. I have seen one for an early Pembs Yeo silver Officers' badge but this was an after market conversion. Andy, I have seen far worse for Officers with mm's. This one is well above your standard OR issue, hence my supposition re SNCO. Three days to go gents. Kevin |

Halmarked silver badges with sliders.
Good evening.
Slidered officers` badges scarce? Possibly. I can confirm the existence of slidered and fully hallmarked examples of the following viz: RWK (KK 668) hallmarked Birmingham 1918/19, Jennens & Co. and KDG (KK1885), the former can be seen in Bosleys` Catalogue for their Sale 30 Jan. 2008, Lot 401. I also have a hallmarked example with slider to 12 Bn. London Rgt. The Rangers (KK2416) hallmarked Birmingham 1938/9, J R Gaunt & Son, with a slider. Again, ex. Bosleys. Enjoy. ST. Good evening.
I do not believe posting illustrations will add to the sum total of human knowledge. Indeed they may well provide a little too much information for the wrong sort of people. As two of the three were sourced through Bosleys, illustrations will be found in their Catalogue. Enjoy. ST. NB. Please see edit to my previous post. Good evening.
I am perfectly well aware of the alternative thread referred to. No picture I can post will shed light on the subject in question. Enjoy. ST. |
