Default 2nd Dragoons

Does anyone have an image of the cap badge worn by the 2nd Dragoons, ca. 1890-1910?
Clive

I hate to admit this - I don't have any cap badge books. My focus has always been elsewhere and it is only with the work that I am doing on a book on Cdn Mil headdress that I find this gap to be noticeable.
The 2nd Dragoons badge in Jim's album is not what I am looking for and I think that my badge is earlier. I will try to post a photo tonight but it is a large badge with the numeral "2" in a large wreath.
Cheers,
Clive

Hi Clive, That sounds like the pattern of helmet plate listed as HP 52 in Mazeas Pre-1914 book. A numeral 2, surrounded by a maple wreath, no crown.

more of a closeup of what I was thinking you were asking for. This is the cap badge... but I think Bill is right that you are after the helmet plate.

Thanks for pointing me to the albums as I never knew they existed. I found the badge at LLWill's excellent album http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ictureid=11140 Of interest is that I have this 'helmet plate' worn on a Pattern 1898 forage cap. I imagine that when the 2nd Dragoons went to the 'staff' or 'naval' pattern cap they didn't have a new design for a cap badge. Most regiments wore a collar badge on the forage cap when it was first introduced. I will post a photo tonight.
Cheers,
Clive

Hi Clive. Interesting use of the helmet plate badge on a forage cap. Wonder if that was a common practice?

I don't think that it was uncommon when one considers how cap badges came into existence. Most regiments wore their collar badge on the forage cap when it was first introduced as the helmet plate was too big and, in many cases, didn't "shrink" well.

Here is an example of the 42nd (Lanark & Renfrew)

Hi Clive!

If the image in my album is not good enough , I can re-scan and send to you. The seris of photo's is very interesting as it has a good number of the Cav badges from pre '14 to post 53.

Default Request for assistance 2nd Regt of Cav/2nd Dragoons

Gents,

I am trying to locate an image of the original helmet plate for the 2nd Regiment of Cavalry or the plate used when they went to the 1871 Dragoon helmet. Any other information on the Regiment would be appreciated as well as uniform info.

Thanks very much,

Brian
