The black is a Regimental backing, which is something I have not collated.

Would the Reconnaissance Corps badge (officers pips and crowns too) have changed from green to yellow in 1944 when they became part of the Royal Armoured Corps?

Yes. Motto on two scrolls rather than the later three scrolls (current) version.

The WO1 Royal Arms badge is quite an extensive field for collectors. There are probably a hundred or more different versions, from all three services.

I have a lot of these and a very comprehensive, illustrated record of my collection, though it must by now need considerable update and revision.

It's all up in the attic and haven't looked at any of them in many years, but will try to find time to drag them down soon and perhaps upload some images.

Best regards

William
