Default Home Guard in London

I'm clearly spending too much time on here and the Home Guard has piqued my interest as I'm at the point where I'm looking for unicorns to fill the gaps in my chosen areas of interest.

I had one relative who having served and been wounded in WW1 went on to join the Home Guard in London during WW2.

Can anyone point me to some background reading on the units in question and their roles?

Many thanks,

R
