R U C Genuine or not?
This item was sold as a cap badge, which I'm not sure it is. The front is blackened, but the rear is plain aluminium, with blackened brass blade fasteners. Opinions please.

Billy, the two blades in that configuration suggest to me that this is a 'DANBURY MINT' Badge.

Nothing wrong with it. Made by Firmin & Sons. The base of these badges is always white metal. This is so that when the black is applied it can be "rubbed" to show the highlights on the front.

Hi Billy
As Dave say's, nothing wrong with it spot on. All the metal RUC cap badges have that fitting as far as I am aware. In my collection I also have an A/A one that has lugs same as the collar's. Regards Neil |

Die struck badge with blades, die struck badge with lugs.
I picked up quite a few RUC cap and collar badges in 'Derry and Strabane during the early / mid 70's but gave nearly all of them away. Some were on cloth backings, others on grained red flexible "leather look" plastic a deeper shade than the cloth. I think it was only the anod al badges I saw with the plastic backings. I have one or two RUC caps but not to hand and I don't remember which type of badge / backing they have. |

Thanks Leigh,
I've just bought a pair of seven string collar badges that have the darker red vinyl type backing. Well, not quite a true pair of collar's. They have a slight variation to them. I'll post a photo soon. billyh |
