8th Hussars bullion badge?
I am guessing this to be a small beret badge to the 8th Hussar, but I believe the scroll is that of the R. Ulster Rifles. The backing is dark blue, wherein I would think the RUR would be dark green? Confused here.
CB Correction: the background may be black, not dark blue.

I would say Royal Ulster Rifles, but this looks more like an Officers beret badge? Why use a badge like this on the Arm?
Officers Mess-Dress no headress so this badge on a sleave so can be identified, ? I get this but did this happen? Probably I guess, look forward to the next few posts as will learn something. Still think it would look good on a beret, billy |

To me too it 'screams" Royal Ulster Rifles, I doubt strongly it is 8th Hussars. However, I cant think of a military use for this embroidered badge with the RUR and wonder if it is for use on civilian clothing (despite it's size)

Agree with Billy and John that it's RUR. They would not have worn an arm badge, but not sure what is use was.

Yes, I purchased this badge. I guess something to do with RUR. It is far to small to be an arm badge or blazer badge, and is the typical size of officer beret badges of ww2 and after.
Could it possibly have been a private affectation by some officer or perhaps a prototype that was never adopted? CB

Mike when have you never seen "Rare -Vintage-Hard to find-made yesterday by my girlfriend Sue" on Ebay, its rarely never described otherwise!
Officers cap badges to the Royal Ulster Rifles was a Silver badge, Airborne the old plinth style 1st WW boss badge made big! O/K Really BIG!!, could this have been 50,s but as stated it is black backing suggestive of a black beret (now I see where the idea of 8th Hussars is comming from) but the Caubeen was the Headress for the R.U.R. thus leaving us with the idea of a trial pattern? Don't know?? would help to have it in the hand but it looks right so! Maybe? Roll on the next post! All the best billy |
