While I'm at it, a very big thank you to Phil2m, for this and all the other great badges/buttons he very generously donated to the collection.

With thanks,

Peter.

Lee,

There's an angle I wasn't expecting. I was kind of hoping something more along the lines of 'Volunteer Rifles' with that cipher and given that the button is black.

Any (midwifery) ideas what the letters could possibly stand for?

Thanks for looking.

Peter

Now I know how it feels, there should be a blush emoticon!

The button was sold in a bag with Rifles buttons and a KRRC boss.

Midwifery, never would have thought that. I know the red cross had black plastic buttons.

Maybe 'Volunteer Infant Removers'

Phil

Memory a bit Hazy but I have one of these and asked Howard Ripley what it was, I think it was something like Royal Victoria Institute?

I read the initials as VRI. Apart from anything else, that was Queen Victoria's cipher from 1876 onwards: Victoria Regina Imperatrix.
