Default 9th Gurkhas - Subedar-Major

In the past members have been extremely helpful in finding out details of a soldiers service - I wonder if anyone has access to Gurkha officers records? I'm trying to find out more about Subedar-Major Prembahadur Basnet 9GR.
I know he was in the 1/9GR and then helped raise the 4/9GR in 1940 as the senior Gurkha Officer. In 1943 he received the OBI in the New Years honours list. If anyone has anymore details on him I'd be very interested as I've just acquired a couple of his badges. Tim

Hi Tim,
Did you look him up in the Indian Army Lists ? That would give you dates of joining, promotion, war service etc...

Best I could do at such short notice. I never bought some of the badges you offered me but atleast I can help you out this way. My good deed for the day. Cheers!

Many thanks Sunil - much appreciated. I suspected that his service would have been extensive ( it had to be to be a SM ) - one of the badges is a boss badge without crown ( so pre 1936) the other is a beret badge with crown on its original backing - and on careful examination it looks like the crown has been added on to an existing badge (contemporaneously I'm sure ) - so possibly one of the first badges produced/adapted when the Regt introduced the crown around 1938. If you don't mind me asking, did you get them from family sources? Any idea where his medals are?

Morning Tim,
Ive checked my books on the history of the 9th and they add nothing more than you know already. Other than the OBI was well deserved.
How about asking on our other FB site? there seems to be a museum at the 3/9th Depot.

Steve
