Hi Mike

Here they are. These were the names suggested at at the Ex-Servicemen's Conference held in Capetown on 2 March, 1921. I see that it wasn't so much related to a name for the BL but for naming the British Empire Service League.

This was to be to provide: "aftercare for Imperial soldiers" (makes them sound like some household appliances...)

The names were, in order of preference: 1) Comrades of the British Empire 2) ]British Legion of Comrades 3) British Empire Federation of Comrades

Interesting to see the use of "federation" , "legion" and repeat use of "comrades"

Actually not that potty after all but the B.E.S.L. was probably the best!

The badge could possibly be a 'friendship' item as the various groups were all 'afilliated' with each other ?

The attached badge shows that links between various organisations were clearly visible in badge designs.
Hi Mike

Hard to say at this distance in time but there is mention of the British Legion (Auckland branch) in contemporary adverts.
