Default Rank Crowns

A question for solving.

Many years ago I acquired some metal QCs, ostensibly as worn by a Chief Security guard. I would like to know if same crowns could also have been worn (and may still be) by Australian Police.

G'day GTB

Sorry, I cant answer your question as I don't collect Police insignia. However, you have to remember that each of the 6 states, the Northern Territory and Australian Capitol Territory (ACT / Canberra) have their own police services and there is also a Federal Police and each has its own set of rank insignia.

Any crowns would be for senior officers, maybe do a Google search and see what you come up with.

Regards

Phil.

If worn by the police as rank insignia, the Crowns would normally have a red backing to the top part (the cushioning). This is certainly the case in the UK and as far as I am aware the same is applicable in those Commonwealth countries where the Queen is still head of state. The rank of Senior Sergeant is used in some parts of Australia and the Crown forms part of their rank insignia, so the red backing would also normally be applicable in that case also.

Insofar as the UK is concerned, in Scotland the cushioning is blue (not red) and also blue cushioning is worn by certain ranks in the Metropolitan Police.

Dave.
