C.E.F Pin
I found this pin among my father in laws items. He served in the RCA during the second world war. As it has C.E.F. on the front I am assuming it is from WW 1. His father served with Canada in WW 1 and WW 2. In WW 1 he fought in France and was wounded in 1915 at Festubert. The Pin also states For Service at the Front.
On the reverse there is a warning, "Penalty for misuse $500.00 or 6 months imprisonment". It also has a number stamped into the back of the poin. My question is, does the number on the back indicate who it was issued to and if so would it be documented on the discharge papers or the, I will call it the Certificate of Service card, the small card issued by the Government indicating the arm of the service one was in with the persons particulars. Also what is the proper name for the Pin, is it a War Service Badge? Thanks in advance Jack |

The serial number on the pin should be recorded at Veterans Affairs. As an example, I contacted Veterans Affairs many years ago to find out what my grandfather's medal entitlement was. They informed me that he was not entitled to any medals, but he was entitled to a "discharge pin" and they gave me the serial number. This number corresponded with the number on the pin he had. It is now with my family treasures.

C.E.F. Pin
Thanks Phil
In the research that I have done since posting my initial thread, the pin is a Class A War Service Badge. I have my wife's grandfathers discharge certificates for WW 1 and WW 2. At the top of the discharge certificate for WW 1, it shows that he is entitled to a War Service Badge Class A and it quotes a number. The number on the Pin does not match that number. He is also entitled to a Army Class B, which I have and the number for it is not noted on the discharge paper not does it match the number quoted for the Class A one. I also have a General Service one for him for WW 2 as it shows he is entitled to it and quotes another number but it does not match the number on the back of the General Service Pin. Should the number match, that is the ones on the discharge certificates, with the one on the back of the pins or does it matter. Jack Last edited by geezer#199; 29-12-10 at 05:57 AM.
