Could be but that would be a pretty big call to make - I think it would be better to wait for a dated pattern card, Gaunt letter or similar to really confirm the change. My 1966 date was based on the Gaunt B'Ham marked brass slider Queen's Regt badges falling apart in tropical climates. The was confirmed by a dated letter from the L.M.Arnold from Chief of the General Staff to Gaunt dated Jan 1967. One can safely assume the issue was pre Jan 1967 given time for badges to fail hence assembled no later than 1966. As such, and with the doco we have, 1966 can (earing to caution) be the regarded as the most accurate date we have. This could always change though and the badge you have may help to revisit this year but by itself I would urge caution. Regards, Chris |

Please can you say what the dimensions are? Mainly, how high is the badge, from base of scroll, to tip of crown? Many thanks and congratulations again. Awra best William |

Hi Gents
I have one of these anodised East Surrey cap badges in my collection. It is ident to Leigh's one shown above, having the Gaunt London mark on the slider. It is a cap badge not a beret badge and measures 45mm from the tip of the crown to the lowest point of the scroll beneath the letter 'S'. As documented at length above, they are uncommon, but do turn up. Never seen a beret size anodised and to my knowledge there are no anodised collars. I do however have an anodised button, which has a Kings crown. Regards all Bess |

Just got this one, arrived today from ebay, looks the same as Leigh's example, which looks the same as the one on p605 in Chris's book, though the dims are slightly out, mine is 42 x 43mm.

As mine also and to echo the comments above - dont turn up every day.
According to K&K sealed in 1954 along with the small beret badge (not anodised). Below my examples for confirmation, including the small brass and bi-metal example for size comparison - marked Buttons Ltd on the slider. Regards all Bess |
