Default Helmet with odd paint job

Good day

This is a VW made helmet dated 1938 with a liner by VERO also dated 1938 but it has the oddest paint job I have ever seen. I'm assuming that it is just for theatrical/re-enactment show and was not a recognised military pattern?

Many thanks

I believe this style was used by the BEF in France/Belgium in 1940 but no doubt a helmet expert will be able to confirm - or not. The 1938 date would be right for that.

Having just read the Off Topic posts on abbreviations I should explain the BEF stands for British Expeditionary Force.

Most of those who expressed an opinion consider that the vast majority of BEF used helmets were MKI*'s and would have had a textured exterior paint.

As the thread starter is a MKII it is unlikely to be from the BEF according to those who are more knowledgeable than me.

Personally I doubt this is army used, home guard perhaps.

A close up of the markings would probably help answer your question but I assume VW is either a typo or a batch number.....
