Default WW1 service record wanted

I have an old friend who would like to trace her father's WW1 service. Like many veterans, he would never talk about it and the details are vague.
Name: George Wallis Baker, born 12.8.1893? in Toronto Canada of British parents, but moved back to UK around 1900.
She was led to believe that in WW1 he joined the "Ontario Rifles" but I suspect that it might have been the "Royal Canadians" (which of course WAS a British regiment).
He then emigrated to Australia in the mid 1920s and died in 1972. His Canadian connection was very slight when he went to war as he was only in Canada as a child. Hard to believe that he could have been a member of the CEF but maybe I might post this request later in the Canadian section.
Any info would be appreciated.

A quick check of Library and Archives Canada revealed 84 Bakers with a first or second name of George in the Great War database. None with Wallis in their name, however there were 20 George Bakers with no middle name indicated.

None of the 84 had the same DOB, or even a birth date of August 12, however 11 names showed no DOB at all.

There is a Willis George Baker DOB: Sep 8, 1892, but that was as near as I could find based on the given descriptors.

Cheers,
Dan.

Thanks for the research. I don't really understand how or why he could have joined a Canadian regiment in UK, and I am still wondering if it is possible to trace the 'Royal Canadians' clue.

Is the "Royal Canadians" reference to The Prince of Wales's Leinster Regiment (Royal Canadians)?

(I havn't found a GW Baker in that regiment).

If you believe he actually joined the British Army then it is a simple matter for looking throughout WO363 and WO364 at anyone with that particular name, find a match, using the information you know to be factual and you would have your man.
