Default Essex ACF

Phil,

Its an obsolete ACF beret badge I'm told. It was produced by an ACF Commandant without official sanction. When it wasn't approved it was withdrawn and may then have been relegated to use as a lapel badge.
I have yet to find any competent authority for this.

If anyone knows better I'll be glad to hear about it.

Stephen.

Hello Phil,

Just got back from Ron's and he told me that he was a Cadet in Harold Hill, Romford in 1967 and was issued with one of these badges. Not long after he moved away so doesn't know for how long it was worn.

Not a complete answer, but a small piece of the jigsaw at least.

All the best mate,

Andy

A friend of mine confirmed he wore one as a beret badge when he was a recruit in one of the Chelmsford detachments in the early 1970s (I'm trying to get a more specific date). No evidence at all of official approval but based on the earlier post it seems to have been worn for a few years.
