TOL TOS, UDF, FAF Unied Arab Emirates
All serious collectors of Gulf State Arab badges will know of the Trucial Oman Levies, which was later renamed Trucial Oman Scouts. Also most will be aware that in 1971 when the United Arab Emirates took responsibility for its own defence and the TOS was renamed Union Defence Force or UDF. Most books and references show that this force lasted until 1976, but I have seen two references to the Federal Armed Forces existing in 1974 which were the former UDF. It seems the FAF lasted until 1976. The question is, what did the FAF cap badge look like? I think I know the answer but perhaps this can be confirmed by some of the Arab specialists. I attach the UDF badge pix and a rather poor pix of what I think is the brass FAF headdress badge in brass. It also exists in white metal and I think that may be the UAE police badge. When was the FAF replaced by the badge currently worn today? As an extra question I have included a 4th badge which is UAE but has an extra star on the top. What can this be?
