Douglas Melford Johnson looks like he was a member of the Irish Regiment of Canada. Take a closer look at the Tam/Caubeen as well as his kilt and sporran.
I did a Google search. Please follow these links. http://www.ducimus.com/_Nova_Scotia/00000005.htm http://wwii.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=549 Can Pylon1357 confirm? Phil Last edited by Phillip Herring; 25-08-10 at 01:34 AM. |

Good research Phil. I stand corrected. The sleeve is consistent with the Irish in 5 CAD. I believe the date on that photo is incorrect.

I will have to try to figure out where the topic of Sgt Johnson came from. I guess I missed something somewhere in this topic. LMAO would not suprise me in the least if I missed something.

Although not dated, I feel this photo is just post World War Two. I think it may have been taken in London. Possibly Piccadilly area?? Wonder if any of our esteemed UK contributers can shed some light on the exact location.

Photo Location
I do not think it is Piccadilly as I just checked it out on Google street view and the buildings do not match up. I checked out Oxford Circus as well and no luck. Here are some images of Piccadilly Circus that my Uncle took while on leave in London in 1943 as well as some matching images I took in 2008.

Hi Recce, In this case it would be better to leave the image and links, as it is part of the flow of the thread. Other posts don't make sense or are hard to follow without the link / image.
Thanks Bill
